A stage play...
A television commercial...
A boardroom presentation...
A press conference...

Each of these informs, persuades, entertains, inspires...in short, each communicates. Their venues, audiences and content surely differ, but the skills required of the actor/speaker/business person to reach his or her respective communication goals are virtually identical.

So, my segue from a 20+year career as a stage, television and voice-over actor to a public speaking instructor was a natural one. Classically trained in acting, I have performed the works of Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and many other great playwrights around the country and frequently upon Minneapolis' famed Guthrie Theater stage. I have also worked and trained with some of the most respected directors and voice and speech coaches in the country.

This training has given me the skills and versatility to connect with and inspire a vast array of audiences in a wide variety of roles. My confidence stems from possessing an extensive vocal and physical vocabulary and an awareness of how my presentation impacts my audience on all levels. Preparation, organization of thoughts and utilization of problem-solving strategies have all factored into my professional experience. Yet I maintain these skills can be learned and crafted by anyone, with the proper instruction and guidance.

I started the Speaker's Edge in 1999 to give business professionals communications training that went beyond being able to do an isolated presentation or media interview. Helping clients develop a visual, physical and spoken image that establishes instant credibility, in every business situation, is essential to the training. Clients play an active role in defining their goals, giving them ownership of the training process and outcomes.

My work with CEOs, executives and sales staff members of major corporations has proven to be invaluable support in helping clients focus their thinking, direct how their message is perceived, and transform the way they view being in the "spotlight." Clients emerge from my training as skilled communicators capable of navigating any speaking situation with confidence and ease.

In addition to training, I speak to groups on how to connect people and ideas (Power Speak), media relations (Grace Under Fire), speech and vocal dynamics (Vocal Power), and creating a powerful first impression (Managing Perception).
